Description

Padel Zone in Hitchin approached me to redesign the bar, lounge, and retail space to make it a more welcoming place for players to meet up before and after their games. The aim was to create an elevated user experience whilst maintaining a sporty and fun brand identity.

The interior design combines elements of an industrial vibe with a contemporary aesthetic. Black ceilings offset with yellow accents and bold, abundant graphics add to the vibrancy of this facility. Warm timber flooring and various levels of seating create a comfortable and inviting environment for everyone visiting the facility.

Challenge

  • The space needed to be multi-functional (bar, merchandise), a waiting area/lounge, and a social hub.
  • The previous space was outdated and disorganised, with little to no representation of the Padel Zone brand.
  • The lighting did not create a consistent atmosphere; it was not conducive to functionality.
  • The client wanted a design that conveyed a premium look while still exuding an active, fun atmosphere, in keeping with the “sporty” nature of Padel.
  • Foot traffic needed to flow smoothly from the courts to the bar and lounge areas and then to the changing rooms.

Solution

  • The new area developed is a multi-functional space for the customer, serving as both a social hub and a lounge area for gathering and waiting prior to and after matches.
  • We’ve incorporated bold branding through the use of colour blocking, signage and feature lighting branded with the yellow and dark colour tones representative of the brand.
  • We designed the bar area to be both professional and welcoming, incorporating elements such as textured wall cladding, different levels of ambient lighting and full-height shelving for merchandise and drink service.
  • We have created a flexible seating model, utilising a combination of cafe tables/bar stools/soft furniture – this allows for utilisation by small/individual/family groups.
  • We have created an uplifting, comfortable environment, incorporating warm timber flooring, textures to offset the dark ceiling and sport accents.
  • We have created a unified lighting strategy to emphasise important areas such as the merchandise wall, bar front and lounge area.
  • We have created practical spaces using materials that endure high levels of use, are easy to clean, and provide functional storage and visibility throughout the area.
